for International Students

Chongqing University offers a comprehensive Chinese language training program throughout the year. The study period for the spring semester is typically from late February to early July, while the fall semester starts from early September and ends around mid-January.

The duration of each semester is either 16 or 17 weeks (including two weeks of test time). Courses include 20 hours of Chinese language instruction per week, as well as optional cultural electives. Students can choose from 1-2 optional courses each semester based on their personal interests and Chinese proficiency. Mandatory core courses cover Comprehensive Chinese, Speaking, Listening, Reading and Writing.  Elective courses include Chinese Painting and Calligraphy, Chinese Martial Arts, Chinese Culture, Chinese Newspaper Reading, HSK Lectures, Business Chinese, etc.

Upon completion of the entrance Chinese proficiency placement test, students will be classified into different levels of classes. Students who successfully complete all prescribed courses and pass the corresponding assessments will be eligible to receive a Study Certificate issued by the School of Foreign Languages of Chongqing University.

 

ELIGIBILITY

  • Non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport, in good physical and mental health.

  • High school graduates or above, between the ages of 18 to 55.

  • June 10th for autumn intake

  • Nov 30th for spring intake

     

APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

1. Personal information page of passport. The passport shall have a minimum validity of one year. For applicants who are already in China, a photocopy of Visa or Residence Permit with entry customs stamps should be provided as well.

2. Notarized highest diploma. Prospective diploma recipients shall submit a pre-graduation certificate issued by the high school, and bring the official degree diploma for registration if admitted, otherwise the admission qualification will be cancelled.  

3. Highest degree’s official transcripts.

4. Financial statement or bank statement. The available balance should be no less than 30, 000 RMB.

5. Physical examination form(Click to download). The form shall be filled by the physician in Chinese or English. Attachments of examination results (Blood report, Electrocardiograph and Chest X-ray) shall also be uploaded. The medical examinations must cover all the items listed in the form with a suggestion filled by the doctor. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please carefully plan your physical examination schedule as the result is valid for only 6 months. Applicants in China can take the physical examination at the international travel health care center and upload the medical examination reports provided by the center.

6. Certificate of Non-criminal record. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.

7. Study or Work certificate. For applicants who are currently studying or working in an institution, a Certificate of Enrollment or Employment issued by the institution is required.

8. In addition to the documents mentioned above, Chongqing University may require further information and materials.

Note: 1) All the above documents should be Chinese or English version. If the original copy is in a different language, a notarized translated version in Chinese or English must be submitted together; as to the certificate issued by the school, the name and contact information of the certifier shall be affixed as well as the official seal of the school. 2) Applicants do not need to send hard copies of the above documents, but shall bring the original copies when registration.

 

APPLICATION AND RECRUITMENT PROCEDURES

1. Online Application

Create and activate an account in our online application system at https://cqu.17gz.org/member/login.do, select “General Visiting Student” for the type, and “Chinese Language” for the major. Fill in the application form and upload required supporting documents (colored scanned copy of the original version).

Submit the application and pay the application fee (400 RMB, non-refundable). Applicants can pay through:

online payment system: Only applicable to applicants who are already in China, paying by WeChat, Alipay or bank card;

bank transfer (remark your application number on the transfer voucher and send the copy to admissions@cqu.edu.cn ASAP): the account information is as follows,

2. Evaluation and Admission

① Review applicants’ qualification and documents, and conduct interviews if necessary.

② Send admission documents to the admitted students.
