English-taught Doctoral Degree Programs for International Students

Chongqing University currently offers 4 doctoral degree programs that are fully conducted in English.

1. Eligibility

• Non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport, in good physical and mental health.

• Academic Requirement

Have a master’s degree in a relevant academic background.

• Language Proficiency Requirement

Applicants whose native language is not English need to provide score report of English language proficiency test (IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL Internet - based 75 or equivalent).

Applicants who apply for English language proficiency certificate waiver shall take a further interview arranged by the university.

2. Application Documents

2.1 Front page of passport. For applicants who are already in China, please provide a photocopy of Visa or Residence Permit with entry customs stamps as well.

2.2 Degree diploma.

Doctoral degree program applicants shall submit master’s degree diploma. Prospective diploma recipients shall submita certificate of expected graduation issued by the university that will issue the diploma.

2.3Academic transcripts.

Doctoral degree program applicants shall submit academic transcripts of master’s degree study.

2.4 Score report of English language proficiency test (within the period of validity) or other English language proficiency proof.

2.5 Study plan or research proposal in English (no less than 800 words).

2.6 Two academic recommendation letters from professors or associate professors with their signatures and contact information.

2.7 Financial statement or bank statement(the amount of balance is no less than RMB 50,000).

2.8 Physical examination form.

The form shall be filled by the physician in English.The medical examinations shall cover all the items listed in the form. In complete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid.

2.9 Non-criminal record. Applicants from our partners may exempt from it.

2.10 For applicants who are currently studying or working in China, a study or work certificate from your institution of study or employment are required.

2.11 In addition to the documents mentioned above, Chongqing University may require further information and materials.

Note: All documents listed above must be original copy in Chinese or English. If the original copy is of a different language, then a notarized translated copy in Chinese or English must be submitted with the original.

3. Application and Recruitment Procedure

3.1 Online Application

• Create and activatean account in our online application system at https://cqu.17gz.org/member/login.do.

• Fill in the application form and upload required application documents (please upload colored scanned copy of the original version).

• Pay the application fee (400 RMB,non-refundable) online and submit the application.

3.2 Comprehensive Evaluation

• Application review and interview. Applicants submitted with all the information and documents correct and completed will be evaluated by the academic school in which the programs are offered. A further interview will be arranged if necessary.

• Application decision and offer. The admissions decision will be made on an overall assessment of academic performance, language competence, supporting materials as well as interview (if applicable). Successful applicants will receive admissions package by mail.
