Silk Road Program Application Guide
Chinese Government Scholarship “Silk Road Program” is a sub-program of the Chinese Government Scholarship Program which aims to cultivate industry leaders and outstanding skilled personnel for the construction of the "Belt and Road" countries.
COVERAGE
The scholarship covers tuition, accommodation, stipend, and comprehensive medical insurance. Specific funding standards are subject to the information on CSC website (https://www.campuschina.org/).

ELIGIBILITY
1. The Applicant must be a non-Chinese citizen from countries along “the Belt and Road” (Click to check), in good physical and mental health, with excellent subject background, professional competence and development potential.
2. Education and Age Requirements:
– Applicants applying for a Master degree should hold a Bachelor diploma and be under the age of 35;
– Applicants applying for a PhD degree should hold a Master diploma and be under the age of 40.
3. Language proficiency requirements:
The instruction language of the supported programs is English. Applicants whose native language is not English need to provide ①score report of English language proficiency test (a score above IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL Internet-based 80 or equivalent), or ②a certificate from former university that the previous degree is taught in English, or ③a certificate indicating the applicants have studied in an English-speaking country for more than one year.
4. Applicants must meet the minimum academic performance requirement, which is a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or a score of at least 80 out of 100.
5. Applicants should not be holding any other scholarships.
APPLICATION DOCUMENTS
1. Application Form for Chinese Government Scholarship (can be downloaded after completing the application in the "Chinese Government Scholarship Information System").
2. Information Page of Ordinary Passport. If the validity of the applicant’s current passport does not meet the requirement (meaning the passport expires before September 2025), please apply for a new passport before submitting the application; Visa page is also required for applicants who are currently in China.
3. Notarized highest diploma. Prospective diploma winners must submit an official pre-graduation certificate issued by their current school to prove their ability to graduate, and bring the original copy of the official degree diploma for registration if admitted, otherwise the admission qualification will be cancelled.
4. Academic transcripts (from the undergraduate program onwards). Copies of academic records from first to last semester during the undergraduate, graduate (if any), and doctoral programs (if any) shall be provided. These transcripts shall be issued and sealed by the attending university’s academic affairs office, graduate school, or student management department.
5. Language qualification certificates. Refer to Section 3 “Language Proficiency Requirements” in “ELIGIBILITY”.
6. A study plan proposal (download the template ). A study plan written in Chinese or English shall contain more than 1,000 characters or words. The applicant’s willingness to study in China, the relevance of professional background to applied field, research ability and development plans should be clearly written.
7. Recommendation letters. Two letters of recommendation (written only in Chinese or English) from professors or associate professors shall be submitted. These letters shall describe the applicant’s objectives of learning in China, comprehensive abilities and evaluation of future growth etc.; The referee’s signature and contact information are necessary, and the date of recommendation letters should not be earlier than September, 2024.
8. Foreigner Physical Examination Form (down load the form) within a valid period of six months. The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Please select the appropriate time to take a physical examination as the result is valid for only 6 months. Attachments of examination results (Laboratory exam report, Electrocardiograph report and Chest X-ray report) shall also be uploaded.
9. Non-criminal record report. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application.
10. Curriculum vitae. Introducing the applicant’s personal information, education background, work experience, research work, publications, honors, and other information, which could facilitate your application.
11. Example of art. To apply for majors related to art or design, applicants could submit their own works (such as paintings, story scripts, short movies, etc.) through “Example of Art / Other Supporting Documents” in the system.
12. Other supporting documents such as publications, awards, certificate of employment/internship, etc..
Notes:
① All the above documents should be Chinese or English version. If the original copy is in a different language, a notarized translated version in Chinese or English must be submitted together; as to the certificate issued by the school, the name and contact information of the certifier shall be affixed as well as the official seal of the school.
② Uploaded supporting documents must be clear, authentic and valid. Applicants are recommended to use a professional device to scan the relevant documents. Applicants shall bear the consequences caused by unclear or unidentifiable uploaded materials.
③ Applicants do not need to send hard copies of the above documents, but shall bring the original copies when registration.
APPLICATION & ADMISSION PROCEDURE
STEP 1: Online Application
1. Applicants submit applications to the “Chinese Government Scholarship Management Information System” at https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/#/login. Choose program Type B. The agency number of Chongqing University is 10611. See Annex 1 for the Instructions for Chinese Government Scholarship Information System (CGSIS).
2. Applicants submit applications to Chongqing University’s Online Application System at https://cqu.17gz.org/lxsgl/login.do and pay the application fee (400 RMB, non-refundable) online. Applications without payment of the application fee will not be processed.
STEP 2: University Review and Pre-admission
Chongqing University will conduct a qualification review and initial assessment of professional competence based on the application materials provided by the applicants. Those who pass the initial assessment will proceed to further evaluations, such as interviews. Following the initial assessment and subsequent evaluations, the university determines the final nominees for submission to the China Scholarship Council.
STEP 3: CSC Review and Admission
CSC makes a final review of the candidates’ academic performance, comprehensive quality, and development potential, etc. and decides on the final list of scholarship winners. Chongqing University will notify the scholarship recipients of their admission results, send them the admission materials, and inform them of the registration and enrollment procedures via email.
NOTES
1. Students granted with Chinese government scholarship are not eligible for other scholarships (excluding one-off awards) offered by Chinese governments at all levels and universities at the same time. Anyone found will be disqualified for the scholarship eligibility and required to return the received scholarship. For those who deliberately conceal their financial support, in addition to disqualification, they will not be allowed to apply for CSC for the next three years.
2. Scholarship applicants must submit their application materials directly to Chongqing University in person. These who apply by agencies will be disqualified from scholarship. The application documents uploaded should be complete, clear, true, and correct. Incomplete documents or application without payment will not be processed. Neither modification nor supplementary document shall be made upon submission.
3. Scholarship recipients shall bring original documents for registration. Provision of any false/misleading information or failure to provide the requested supporting documents will lead to disqualification of admission. Those who submitted the pre-graduation certificate upon application should bring the official degree diploma for registration if admitted, otherwise the admission qualification will be cancelled.
4. Applicants are advised to check your registered email regularly, as the admission officer will inform all updates, arrange interviews, and notify application status and scholarship result via email.
5. Admission result is subject to the approval list of the China Scholarship Council.
