2025 International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship of Chongqing University

For the purpose of satisfying the growing demands of the international community for Chinese language teachers and facilitating Chinese language education in other countries, the Center for Language Education and Cooperation (CLEC) will continue with the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship. Confucius Institutes, independently operated Confucius Classrooms, certain HSK test centers, Chinese language (education) departments of foreign universities, professional associations for Chinese language instruction of other countries, Chinese embassies (consulates) abroad (collectively “recommending institutions”) may recommend outstanding students and currently-employed Chinese language teachers to study International Chinese Language Education or related majors in Chinese universities and colleges.

Chongqing University, one of the host institutions, welcomes qualified applicants to study Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in International Chinese Language Education or Non-degree Chinese language program at Chongqing University under the Scholarship.

● ELIGIBILITY

1. Be a Non-Chinese citizen, with a valid ordinary-type passport；

2. Be friendly to China, have no criminal record, abide by the laws and regulations of China and the rules and regulations of Chongqing University;

3. Be in good physical and mental condition, be in good academic and behavioral standing;

4. Be interested in Chinese language education and related work;

5. Be aged between 16-35 years on September 1, 2025. The maximum age limit for in-service Chinese teachers may be extended to 45, but those who apply for a scholarship for a Bachelor’s degree shall be younger than 25 under most circumstances.

● CATEGORIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

● SCHOLARSHIP COVERAGE AND CRITERIA

The scholarship supports tuition, accommodation, comprehensive medical insurance expenses and living allowance.

The living allowance is paid to the scholarship recipients on a monthly basis. The monthly allowance for undergraduates, one-year-study program students and one-semester-study students is RMB 2,500 per person; and that for master’s students in International Chinese Language Education is RMB 3,000 per person.

Note: Starting from 2025, the duration of Master's Degree program in International Chinese Language Education at our university is 3 years, but the funding duration of the scholarship for this program is 2 years, so students should bear all costs for the 3^rd year of study.

● APPLICATION DEADLINES (Beijing Time)

For programs commencing in September 2025, applications must complete their applications by 11^th May 2025.

For programs commencing in March 2026, applications must complete their applications by 31^th October 2025.

● APPLICATION AND ADMISSION PROCEDURE

1. Online Application (Applicants shall complete both online applications as required in the following two steps, otherwise the application will not be processed.)

Step 1:  Applicants log on to the International Chinese Language Teachers scholarship website (http://cis.chinese.cn/account/login) and search for recommending institutions and select “Chongqing University” as host institution to submit application materials online, and track the application process.

Note: Chongqing University’s HSK test center serving as a recommending institution, only recommends candidates who take HSK test at this test center. For any further inquiries, please contact jw2014@cqu.edu.cn.

Step 2: Applicants register at Chongqing University’s Online Application System (https://cqu.17gz.org/member/login.do) to complete online application of Chongqing University.

Note: Personal information, passport information and email address (can’t be changed afterwards) are particularly important, please make sure to fill them out correctly.

2. Review and Admission

1) The recommending institutions are engaged in the applicant selection, materials review, and collecting and handing over applicants’ documents to Chongqing University.

2) Chongqing University will then review the eligibility of applicants, and submit the admission list to CLEC.

3) CLEC will conduct an overall assessment of all applications and admit applicants on the basis of competitive selection. Applicants can track the application process and result in the CLEC application system.  

4) Chongqing University will issue the e-version of admission documents. Scholarship awardees must register at Chongqing University at the time specified in the admission notice.

Note：①Priority will be given to those currently employed Chinese language teachers providing proof of employment and a letter of  recommendation from the institution where they work. ② Applicants who have received the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Certificate during Chinese Bridge competitions need to submit their application documents along with their scholarship certificates to Chongqing University at the International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship website. ● LIST OF APPLICATION MATERIALS

1. A Scanned copy of passport photo page. If the validity of the applicant’s current passport does not meet the requirement (meaning the passport expires before September 2025), please apply for a new passport before submitting the application;

2. A scanned copy of score reports of the HSK and HSKK tests (within the two-year validity).

3. A reference letter by the head of the Recommending Institution.

4. For degree program applicants, a certification of the highest education diploma (or proof of expected graduation) and an official transcript; these transcripts shall be issued and sealed by the attending university’s academic affairs office or student management department.

5. Applicants of the scholarship for a Master’s Degree in International Chinese Language Education are required to provide two reference letters from professors or associate professors. Priority will be given to applicants who may provide an employment contract with a teaching institution upon completing their studies in China.

6. In-service Chinese language teachers shall provide proof of employment and a reference letter from the employer.

7. Applicants under the age of 18 shall provide certified documents of designation signed by their entrusted legal guardians in China.

8. Applicants shall provide additional documents required in Chongqing University’s Online Application System as follows.

★Foreigner Physical Examination Form and attachments (click to download the form)within a valid period of six months prior to the submission date of the application. The form should be filled by the physician in English or Chinese. Attachments of laboratory results of blood test, electrocardiograph report and Chest X-ray report shall also be uploaded. The physical examinations must cover all the items listed in the form. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid.

★Non-criminal record report. The applicant shall submit a valid certificate of Non-criminal record issued by the local public security authority, usually issued within 6 months prior to the submission date of the application. A notarized Chinese or English translation version shall be attached to any text other than Chinese or English.

★ A Personal Statement. No less than 500 words, stating your basic personal information, hobbies and expertise, motivation, study plan, etc.

★ Study or Work certificate. For applicants who are currently studying or working in an institution, a Certificate of Enrollment or Employment issued by the institution is required.

★ Other materials in addition to the documents mentioned above, required in the Chongqing University’s Online Application System.

NOTES

1. Applicants shall provide authentic, complete and valid application materials and shall not resort to fraud, otherwise, application or admission will be cancelled. Applicants do not need to send hard copies of the above documents, but shall bring the original copies when registration.

2. Those who submitted the pre-graduation certificate upon application should bring the official degree diploma for registration if admitted, otherwise the admission qualification will be cancelled.

3. Those who failed to register on time, failed to pass the health assessment, dropped out midway and/or suspended will be deprived of scholarship. Scholarship eligibility will not be retained if the scholarship recipient can not register before the registration deadline.

4. Degree students shall accept the annual assessment under the Annual Appraisal Procedures of International Chinese Language Teachers scholarship.
