2026 Application Guide for China Southern Power Grid Scholarship
for International Students
This is a full scholarship university-enterprise targeted training program jointly launched by Chongqing University and China Southern Power Grid (CSG). Catering to the business development needs of China Southern Power Grid in ASEAN countries, the program integrates the superior disciplines of Chongqing University and adopts university-enterprise joint training relying on the China-Laos International Institute of Excellence in Engineering initiated and constructed by the University.
The program enrolls international undergraduate students majoring in Electrical Engineering and Automation as well as master’s students in Electrical Engineering, aiming to cultivate interdisciplinary, practice-oriented international talents with sound ethics and solid professional competence, and further promotes the internationalization of both the University and the enterprise.
Admitted students shall sign a tripartite agreement. Upon graduation, eligible candidates will be selected and recruited to work on relevant international projects of China Southern Power Grid.
SCHOLARSHIP COVERAGE & STANDARDS
The scholarship is a full scholarship with the following benefits,
1. Full tuition waiver;
2. Free on-campus accommodation (arranged by the university);
3. Comprehensive medical insurance for international students (RMB800 per academic year);
4. Monthly living allowance: RMB 2,000 per month for Undergraduate students; RMB 3,000 per month for Master students. Paid monthly for 10 months per academic year.
The scholarship duration is generally consistent with the standard length of study. Funding will not be extended if students fail to complete studies within the normal schooling period due to personal reasons.

APPLICATION DEADLINE
May 31, 2026 (Beijing Time)
ELIGIBILITY
1. Applicants must be Non-Chinese citizens holding valid ordinary passports, with sound physical and mental health, as well as excellent academic performance and moral character;
2. Education & Age Requirements:
· Undergraduate applicants must hold a High school diploma, aged above 18 years old and under 25 years old.
· Master’s applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree; aged under 35 years old.
3. Language Proficiency Requirements:
· Undergraduate applicants: HSK 4 with a score of 210 or higher.
· Master’s applicants: HSK 5 with a score of 180 or higher.
4. Applicants with relevant academic or professional background are preferred.
5. Admitted students must sign a targeted training agreement with China Southern Power Grid.
APPLICATION DOCUMENTS
1. Information Page of Ordinary Passport. A valid ordinary passport is required, with an expiration date no earlier than March 2027. For applicants who are already in China, a photocopy of their Visas or Residence Permit with customs entry stamps must also be provided.
2. Notarized Highest Degree Certificate. Undergraduates applicants shall submit a high school diploma; master’s applicants shall submit bachelor’s diploma and degree certificate. Prospective graduates (who have not yet obtained their degree diplomas) shall submit a pre-graduation certificate issued by their university. Formal certificates must be submitted upon registration; failure to do so will result in admission cancellation.
3. Academic Transcripts. Undergraduates applicants shall submit official transcripts covering all courses completed during the high school years; master’s applicants shall submit official transcripts from the first to last semester during the undergraduate program. Transcripts must be officially issued and sealed by the academic affairs office or student management department and include a grading system explanation.
4. China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA) Transcript. Undergraduate applicants must take CSCA (subjects: STEM Chinese, Mathematics and Physics) and submit a valid score.
5. Proof of Language Proficiency. A valid language proficiency proof must be submitted. Refer to Section 3 of “Eligibility” for specific requirements.
6. Two academic recommendation letters in English or Chinese (for master’s applicants only). Letters must be from professors or associate professors introducing the applicant’s academic/research background, comprehensive abilities and evaluation of future growth etc. Each letter must include the referee’s signature and contact information (academic title, email address, and phone number), and the issue date shall not be earlier than January 2025.
7. Foreigner Physical Examination Form (click to download) and Attachments within a valid period of six months. The form must be completed by the physician in Chinese or English. The physical examination must cover all the items listed in the form and include the physician’s recommendation. Incomplete records or those without the signature of the attending physician, the official stamp of the hospital or a sealed photograph of the applicants are invalid. Attachments of examination results (Laboratory exam report, Electrocardiograph report and Chest X-ray report) must also be uploaded. Applicants in China may complete the physical examination at the international travel health care center.
8. Non-criminal Record Certificate. A valid certificate of Non-Criminal Record issued by the local public security authority must be submitted. The certificate shall be issued within 6 months prior to the application submission.
9. A Personal statement (≥1,000 words in Chinese or English) including personal information, education, work experience (if any), research achievements, awards, and a study plan in China.
10. Study or Employment Certificate. For applicants currently studying or working at an institution, a Certificate of Enrollment or Employment issued by the institution is required.
11. Other supporting documents required by the university.
Notes:
1) All the above documents should be in Chinese or English. If the original copy is in another language, a notarized Chinese or English translation must be submitted along with it.; For school-issued certificates, the certifier’s name, contact information, and the school’s official seal must be affixed.
2) Applicants are not required to send hard copies of the above documents, but shall bring the original copies for registration.
Reminder: Personal information, passport information, and email address are crucial. Please ensure that you provide accurate information. Applicants shall bear responsibility for any consequences resulting from incorrect basic information in your application.
APPLICATION & ADMISSION PROCESS
1. Take the China Scholastic Competency Assessment
Applicants for undergraduate degree programs are required to take the “China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA)” organized by the China Scholarship Council on behalf of the Ministry of Education of China, and submit a valid transcript while applying. Applicants can visit the official CSCA website (http://www.csca.cn) for test dates and content.
2. Online Application
Create and activate an account on Chongqing University’s online application system at https://cqu.17gz.org/member/login.do, complete the application form and upload required supporting documents (color-scanned copies of the original documents). Submit the application and pay the application fee (600 RMB, non-refundable) online before the application deadline. Applications that are unpaid or submitted after the deadline will not be reviewed. The system operation instruction is enclosed in the attachment.
3. Evaluation and Admission
1) Initial review of qualification and documents.
2) Academic review by the relevant school, and interview for those who have passed the above review.
3) Issuance of admission documents to admitted students.
IMPORTANT NOTES
1. Scholarship recipients are not eligible for other scholarships offered by Chinese governments at all levels and universities at the same time. Anyone found will be disqualified for the scholarship eligibility and required to return the received scholarship.
2. Chongqing University and China Southern Power Grid do not authorize any individuals or agencies to recruit students for this scholarship program, and no agency fees are charged in any form. Applicants must submit their applications directly to Chongqing University in person. These who apply by agencies will be disqualified from scholarship. The application documents uploaded should be complete, clear, true, and correct. Incomplete documents or application without payment will not be processed. Neither modification nor supplementary document shall be made upon submission.
3. Scholarship recipients shall bring original documents for registration. Provision of any false/misleading information or failure to provide the requested supporting documents will lead to disqualification of admission. Those who submitted the pre-graduation certificate upon application should bring the official degree diploma for registration if admitted, otherwise the admission qualification will be cancelled.
