Visa & Residence Permit
Students who hold X1 Visa must apply for a Residence Permit within the first 30 days of their arrival. It is not necessary for holders of X2 Visa whose days of visa validity is longer than his study period to apply for Residence Permit. Holders of other types of visa must apply for a Residence Permit before their visa expires. International students who have already stayed or will stay in China for more than 6 months are required to apply for a Residence Permit.

To apply for the Residence Permit or Visa, students must first submit the following documents to the International Students Office:

1. Students who apply for the Residence Permit for the first time are required to provide (1) the Admission Notice(see Fig. 1 ), (2) JW201/JW202(original), (3) Health Certificate certified by the Chongqing Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau(original), (4)valid proof of their housing arrangement/Accommodation Certificate from the local police station(original and copy), (5) a 2 inch white or blue photo which has to be taken at the registered photo gallery meeting the requirements of the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau. 3. Students who apply for the extension of Residence Permit are required to provide (1) temporary valid proof of their housing arrangement/Accommodation Certificate from the local police station (original and copy) and (2) a 2 inch white or blue photo which has to be taken at the registered photo gallery meeting the requirements of the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau. How to apply for a Residence Permit:

Step 1: International Students’ Office(ISO) will print the Foreigner Registration Form for new students who live on campus and present them to the local police station where students’ residence place falls under its jurisdiction.

Note: Students who fail to register on the prescribed date are required to complete step 1 by themselves.

Step 2: ISO will arrange buses to take new international students to Chongqing Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau for the physical examination or verification of physical examination record.

Note: Students who fail to register on the prescribed date need to complete step 2 by themselves.

Step 3: Students should present the payment receipt of their tuition fee (not required for scholarship students), passport, the Accommodation Certificate, Health Certificate (original and photocopy) to the ISO.

Step 4: The ISO registers their information and produces the Residence Permit Application Letter with stamp for the students.

Step 5: ISO staff will go to the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau and collect the visa process tracking note for new students.

Note: Students who fail to register on the prescribed date should complete step 5 with the documents in step 3 by themselves.

Step 6: Students are supposed to check the progress of Residence Permit handling by dialing the telephone number on the Residence Permit Progress Note. Once the Residence Permit is ready, the students need to pay for the processing fee of around 400 RMB (for less than a year) by using a Union Pay bank card(cash is not accepted) and collect the passport at the CMPSB. Normally it takes 5 workdays to get the Residence Permit back after the Progress Note is given.
